Over the last decade reclaimed and industrial lighting has really exploded in popularity. Designed originally for industrial uses such as theatres, factories and shops, these lamps and fittings were mass produced to be robust and are usually simple yet elegantly styled. They were often a larger scale than domestic lights and in their polished metal or faded paintwork really suits our informal modern homes and restaurants well. Because we are talking about electric lighting most will date to the 20th Century but earlier converted lighting can be found also.
While modern copies of these lamps can often be purchased, original antique and vintage examples bear the wear and patina that we love and add a softness to the look. Because they were intended to be versatile most are quite simple to rewire as well.
