Military Gentleman's large Dennison working British V1 compass fob for a pocket watch chain.
C~WW1 (Dated 1917).
(Please excuse all the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph).
Measures; 6.4cm height (including the top ring), 4.4cm width, 1.3cm depth and weighs a heavy 51.3 grams.
Large and chunky pocket watch shaped silver nickel case which is clearly stamped to one side; DENNISON BIRMINGHAM V1 45249 1917 and carries the Military crows foot arrow above.
The front cover opens correctly to exactly 90 degrees when the top button is depressed, closing tightly with a very reassuring click.
Numbered to the inside; 148564 W - the W is the first letter of the surname of the silversmith at the Dennison factory who pinned the case joints, unfortunately on this occasion I have been unable to identify him.
Correctly numbered to the front curvette with a partial repeat of the main case number; 8564.
'Floating' compass which seems to be operating correctly and original thick bevel edge glass (not acrylic) which is in amazing condition with no scratches or 'flea nibbles'.
Robust original firm totally un-worn top ring.
Excellent bright clean condition with just one small indentation to front cover and a little bit of overall patina/light surface scratches - all commensurate with age.
Will arrive in a new velvet presentation pouch and be securely and safely packed.
